Episode 546: Abby Nichols – Professional Runner for NAZ Elite; From Olympic Trials Reflections to Her Summer of Racing

Abby Nichols was in town in Raleigh for the Sir Walter Mile so we had the opportunity to do an in person interview! She was the reigning champion of the Sir Walter Mile and she agreed to just come on over and sit in my living room and record, which was so fun.

Abby runs with Hoka NAZ Elite and she is a 1500 meter and 5000 meter runner. She has a personal best in the 1500m of 4:07. Her mile PR, which was run at the Sir Walter Mile is 4:26 and she has a 15:03 PR in the 5000m and 32:27 PR in the 10,000m.

Abby grew up in Ohio, ran for Ohio State, and then went on to run for the University of Colorado. Unexpectedly, we took a turn and talked about her time at University of Colorado, and she weighed in on her thoughts on Mark Wetmore and Heather Burroughs and how they won’t be coming back to coach the team this coming year.

Abby competed at the Olympic trials in the 5,000m and had a bit of a disappointment there. She talks about that and what that’s been like to bounce back from that and continue to race well this summer.

I loved chatting with Abby and am so excited to see what she does during the rest of her career!
