Episode 17: Lindy Johnson with America’s Kids Belong
This week we are talking to Lindy Johnson. She is a licensed therapist and trauma care trainer for America’s Kids Belong.
AKB mobilizes government, faith-based, business and creative leaders around the goal of permanency and belonging for every child. Combining grassroots and “grasstops” methods, America’s Kids Belong runs innovative initiatives in states to help ensure that every child is in a loving home by: recruiting more foster and adoptive families, engaging wrap-around support for at-risk, foster and adoptive families along the way, and helping youth who have aged out without a family reach their full potential.
I really enjoyed learning from Lindy during our conversation. We talked about trauma and attachment within the foster care lens. We also talked about some of the initiatives that AKB is involved in! Hearing about these brought so much emotion up for me. Vulnerable children are waiting for families as we speak and the work that AKB does to bring these children permanency is so very needed.
I know that this week isn’t a light hearted easy listen. This week will challenge you. BUT I know that this week will educate you and encourage you to speak out for the vulnerable around you.
