Episode 187: Alia Gray

Alia Gray joins me on the show today and I couldn’t be more excited to share her story with you. Alia runs with the Roots Running Project in Boulder, CO. She is coached by the legendary Dr. Joe Vigil and her husband Dr. Richard Hansen who is the Roots Running Head Coach.

She came to running her Junior year of High School and went on to run for Chico State where she earned All-American honors in cross country and track. Alia placed 10th in the 2016 Olympic Marathon Trials on that very hot day and holds a marathon PR of 2:34 and a half marathon PR of 72 minutes. She has overcome a host of injuries and after a couple of tough years is ready to get after it and see what she can do this fall in the marathon.

When she’s not training, Alia is a freelance writer- she does not have a major sponsor right now and we talk about that balance and what it’s like to run at such a high level without a sponsor. She loves music, good coffee and is super easy to talk with – lending to a fun and inspiring conversation.
